Councilwoman Sharon Quirk-Silva Throws Hat in the Ring for the 72nd
Fullerton Councilwoman Sharon Quirk-Silva sent me a text message that read; “To my favorite blogger (I like the sound of that) I am officially running for the 72nd Assembly seat”.
This is good news for Fullerton Democrats that care about having a principled Democrat in the race. There appears to be another Democrat in the race from Placentia, but Sharon Quirk-Silva has a high profile here in Fullerton, and Fullerton is a much bigger chunk of the 72nd.
Quirk-Silva is now firmly opposed to redevelopment boondoggles. She recently opposed the bogus redevelopment expansion and had the courage to change her vote on the $6 million McDonald’s redevelopment giveaway/boondoggle.
So far, of all the candidate’s websites, I think she has the best. Here’s the link.
Boondoggles aren’t a part of any party platform, yet taxpayers are saddled with new ones every year. It takes guts to stand against them, especially when city staff is so intent on pushing ’em through.
It’s obvious that we need this type of scrutiny at the state level too, especially on the Democrat side of the legislature. She would probably do a good job.
Travis, I agree, Sharon would do a good job, I really like how she understood the facts that the redevelopment agency’s expansion would steal money away from the Police and Fire Departments, as well as our Schools and General fund.
And I liked how she saw right through Staffs lie that the money wasn’t coming from the Agency or the City. She’s a million times smarter than the city manager & redevelopment director though she was.
Also, I’m going to be interviewing her soon, so stay tuned!
If looks are play a role in this race Sharon wins hands down.
Mrs. Ackerman don’t move into our district, it’s going to get ugly. I know what’s in store and Carpetbaggers are NOT WELCOMED.
STAY IN YOUR IRVINE GATED COMMUNITY.
I’m not buying into quirk’s political epiphany. there is too short of a time period between her past actions and her current opinions. quirk’s change is worthy of a chameleon and not an assemblywoman
Plus, I think it’s wise to be on guard about the “favorite blogger” remark. It may be a preemptive move to soften up any critical observations from the FFFF… I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Plus, I think she voted NO on the city’s 2010 budget, that’s fiscally responsible! If I’m wrong someone please correct me.
I think the admin might have a bit of a crush. I’d keep texting if I were you Sharon. For crying out loud…
Next time around I think he’s going to hire a professional photographer for you.
I’m with van on this one. S Q-S has done some good work – this summer. But she’s been goin’ along with the rest of the crowd for over 4 years!
Epiphany is a good word – if there really has been one. If not, well…
She gets good marks for her recent votes, but the overall record is still problematic. I would like to see a series of responsible votes on these monster subsidized redevelopmetn housing blocks. If she were to pull the plug on the Amerige Court monster I would be very impressed. And also if she did some personnel boom-lowering.
She does seem to have finally figured out what a prevaricating, incompetent City Manager she’s got.
IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO BE SMART.
Just keep Tom “the hands” Daly away from her.
