Is Jaramillo Paying Herself?

Many politicians get in the game for self-aggrandizement – the opportunity to be known and if not respected, at least have people pretend to respect your opinion and laugh at your jokes.

Higher office offers the opportunity to make better money and benefits than most elected office holders could possibly attain working in real jobs. But local office doesn’t offer much in the way of remuneration; and campaigns for office offer nothing. Or so I thought.

Gotta pay the bills…

Most candidates running for office lend their campaigns money with the expectation that if they win, they can leverage their new job and pay off their debt – to themselves. So did Vivian “Kitty” Jaramillo, who lent herself $3000, and no doubt expects a victory would provide a windfall from the Long Beach marijuana cartel to pay herself back.

But I I can’t remember a candidate actually paying him or herself out of funds raised for a campaign. Look at this this entry on Jaramillo’s form 460 for her current campaign for the Fullerton City Council:

I’m not sure what “Agent Payment” means in this instance, but you’ll notice there’s no entry in the “CODE” column to tell us what this is for. So Kitty made a $750 payment…to herself? Campaigning for fun and profit? A little short on the rent that month? Who knows? But if Kitty is paying herself back for some expense or other, she’s dodging the requirements of the California Fair Political Practices Commission and is inviting official scrutiny.

Hopefully, one of Jaramillo’s contributors like F. Paul Dudley or Jan Flory will ask Kitty why she’s reimbursing herself out of campaign funds.

  1. An amendment will now be forthcoming!

BTW, Sharon Quirk gave Jaramillo another $1500 today! Any coincidence it happened the day after FFFF’s report on how much Jamir Valencia had raised?

    1. Quirky-Quirk will be running for County Supervisor in 2026 and will want all the local City Council endorsements she can get.

  2. Isn’t Jung running for Stupervisor in Chaffee’s empty chair? If so, I can’t wait to see a Jung versus Quirk fight!

    1. He might be. If so this Truxaw bloke was meant to make Jung spend some of his vast pile o’ cash so he can’t use it later against Quirky-Quirk.

Never heard that one. I figured people went into politics because they could do a good job for their fellow citizens.

      1. I think it’s true of most politicians. I don’t think they’re always right. But I don’t think most people go into politics to get validation for their opinions or to have their jokes laughed at.

I’m not a victim of extreme cynicism toward public service like most posters here.

  4. What exactly did you expect from Kitty
How about Jamie Valencia? Where are the skeletons in her closet?
Or is she just another wanna be?

    1. I was told Josh Newman bankrolled the lawsuit and Kitty was the name on the ticket so he didn’t have to get his hands dirty because that guy has no balls. She cashed in that favor for an endorsement. Josh is a fool and so is she.

      1. Could be true. Newman has made some really bad political mistakes. In this case endorsing a retired meter maid. But he probably figures he needs Latinos happy with him.

  5. What Latinos? His new district is mostly Irvine, Costa Mesa, and south parts of the county. Maybe he ought to be smart and make sure whites and Asians are happy with him.
