Fire Heroes Strike Back at Steven Greenhut
Tonight’s Martha Montelongo radio show will feature author and editorialist Steven Greenhut, who was attacked this week by the International Association of Firefighters and painted as an evil front man in the battle to rein in ridiculous public employee pensions.
Here is the new IAFF commercial, which was also featured on a segment of some left wing thing called “The ED Show.” The ad replays truthful statements of Steven Greenhut along with John Stossel and Glen Beck interlaced with video of fire heroes falling down and putting people on stretchers.
The underlying theme of conflict between logic and emotion is believed to be intentional.
Tune in to KRLA AM 870 or KRLA870.com tonight at 11 pm to catch Greenhut and a few others on the Martha Montelongo Show.
Give a show of hands.
How many FFFF losers are going to stay up to listen to another loser drone on about unions.
Greenhut is loser just like those who idolize him on this board.
Couldn’t even make it at the loser OC Register.
Pathetic.
I don’t know about FFFF losers, but it sounds like union bosses all around the nation are tuning in to Greenhut. They must be worried.
If I use that loser logic, then the losers on this board must be worried about Pam Keller.
She gets mentioned often.
Greenhut is a loser? Are you joking? Do you think you’re calling someone a loser is some sort of argument.
Don’t you ever have a single argument to make?
Good God, Fred you haven’t seen anything yet. Pretty soon she will break out with the bunny cooking thing again. Then you’ll see some serious weirdness.
Well I guess that’s the price of letting everyone post comments who wants to.
And kudos to you for being the best blog in OC.
Can you think of a better word to describe him?
Moron, stupid, demagogue. Pick one. In another era he would have been called a muckraker.
Muckraker? Greenhut thanks you. From wikipedia:
A muckraker is, primarily, a reporter or writer who investigates and publishes truthful reports involving a host of social issues, broadly including crime and corruption and often involving elected officials, political leaders and influential members of business and industry. The term is closely associated with a number of important writers who emerged in the 1890s through the 1930s, a period roughly concurrent with the Progressive Era in the United States.
These writers focused on a wide range of issues including the monopoly of Standard Oil; cattle processing and meat packing; patent medicines; child labor; and wages, labor, and working conditions in industry and agriculture. In a number of instances, the revelations of muckraking journalists led to public outcry, governmental and legal investigations, and, in some cases, legislation was enacted to address the issues the writers’ identified, such as harmful social conditions; pollution; food and product safety standards; sexual harassment; unfair labor practices; fraud; and other matters. The work of the muckrakers in the early years, and those today, span a wide array of legal, social, ethical and public policy concerns.
Greenhut is a moron and yet the supremely stupid Pam Keller is your idol.
Holy Shit you’d better extract your head from your rectum, ASAP before total asphyxiation sets in.
Wow! Important writers…truthful reports…legislation enacted to address the issues.
4SD, you sure hold that guy in high esteem:
Oh Greenhut the Magnificent! Muckraker Supreme!
You sure use the word loser a lot. I’ll bet that’s because you heard it so often growing up.
In another era you would have been called an asshat. Oh wait, that’s this era…
Everybody 4SD Observer disagrees with is a “loser”
No 4SD Observer …… you are a rather low-intelligent Civil Servant doing his best to “protect his turf” and keep the gravy train rolling along.
Beware of that “cliff” just round the corner…. that train is nearing the edge, with no brakes.
As public pension costs consume 25 percent to 50 percent of the payrolls of a growing number of agencies throughout the state and nation – raising concerns about tax increases, reduced public services and a wave of municipal bankruptcies – officials are asking the once-taboo question of whether it may be necessary to seek to reduce promised pension benefits.
Pensions May Be ‘Touchable’ http://www.calwatchdog.com/2011/02/11/pensions-may-be-touchable/
Why does everybody allow themselves to be baited by 4SDumb&$$
Because losers are easily baited.
Next easy question.
That makes you the loser.
Nice try loser cheese brain.
This is my 4th post out of the current 14.
Guess whose been baited?
Are you kidding? 4SD is the only boohoo in Fullerton who shows up on the blog. So we use her as a punching bag in loco parentis. And she is plenty loco to keep showing up. And yet she does. Over and over and over again. We place the tasty bait on the hook and up she comes to snap at it. Just like a poor befuddled fish.
But it’s all voluntary so what the Hell. Just good, clean fun.
Have to love these union goons. It always has to be the logical tie between “we risk our lives” and “dont question anything we do”. Image if the Marine Corps engaged in this selfish line of deception. They are the real heroes.
How about this concept. We appreciate what you do but when you sit around month after month and year after year without carrying a child to safety from a burning building, can we just call it even if you finally get the chance to do what you have been generously paid to do all these years?
Would have loved to hear Chris Thompson and Steve Greenhut! What happened to him? Martha is far too whinny for me and she always goes off about being a mexican…give me a break! In the words of Michael Scott “barrack Obama is President racism is dead!”
You’re the whinny one.
wow Martha I think that come back relates back to the playground and starts with you being rubber and me glue.
I guess I was write Chris was the brains and you were always talking. So now without Chris we’re not getting intelligent talk, just talk.
I’ve never understood why we can’t have varying pays for levels of service. When there is no emergency, no fires, no work, the pay should be “x”. Then when there is a fire or they actually do risk their lives, then the pay can ratchet up to 100 x “x”. Especially the firefighters in Orange County. Rarely do they see any action and when they do it is to assist paramedics. I left my special needs son with a nurse so my husband and I could watch my daughter’s Christmas program. The nurse panicked and dialed 911 because he was coughing and upset. Anyway, they came right over and I rushed home to find about 20 guys standing around while 2 guys checked his sats and gave him oxygen. I’m not saying I’m not grateful they were there just in case, but it is an example of over staffing and over reacting because there was nothing better to do. I can’t imagine what it cost for those trucks to be there and all those guys there. As a person who has utilized 911 several times, I am very grateful for the work these guys do but should we bankrupt our state/country for them? And what about the military? I’d argue they risk their lives way more often and get paid squat. A happy medium would be nice.
Which shows you are clueless about military life. 90% of military personnel never go near a warzone.
And one other thing. Using your idea, privates would make more than generals.
Good luck with that.
EPIC FAIL!!
What you say is true. Would you mind re-reading my post? In your haste to disagree you missed what I was saying. Most 1st responders never see danger but they get paid as if they do. Most military officers, my friend included, will never see combat but she makes bank. Another friend on the other hand has been to Irag 2x and is currently training in case he needs to go to Afghanistan but he makes much less than the other. Back to my point: there needs to be some kind of system worked out where when you have down time, you get paid that way. When you are risking your life, you should get paid accordingly. The GOP is the same as union bosses when it comes to defense. There is too much waste, fraud, & bureaucracy at the DOD but no one is allowed to touch it because it’s a “national security” issue. I would argue (again) that the bulk of $$$ spent needs to be paid to units (salaries, survivor ins, equipment, disability, etc) in war zones.
4SD: “Which shows you are clueless about military life”
Maybe he knows plenty about military life and you make his point. While 90% of military personnel never see the front line, what percentage of fire staff ever actually saves someone from a burning building? What percentage of police ever have to shot a bad guy? 1%? Less?
Asking one with no sense to use some is an oxymoron but in the event you stumble on to some common sense dont hesitate to use it.
4SD, I get the point. True, the generals and Admirals are not the ones in the line of fire. What I differentiate is the generals are not running commercials trying to justify their pay by pointing to the guy on the front line. Also, as you know, a general retires with a max of 75 percent of BASE pay. No overtime, housing allowance, combat pay etc. If the firefolks would constrain themselves to something reasonable like that there would be far less criticism here.
I doubt that to be the case.
The cost of supporting a general or an admiral is significantly higher than a firefighter.
Generals retire with 75% of their base pay regardless of age. During their service they are provided housing that is far in excess of the average taxpayer. Some commands provide for private helicopters, and private jets for transport, along with the drivers for their vehicles.
This doesn’t include other perks like meals or a healthcare system that conservatives would claim is socialized medicine.
Might be why they aren’t running commercials asking for more.
4SD walked right in to this one.
“Generals retire with 75% of base pay regardless of age”. Well 4SD age does not factor in for two reasons. First, unless you were fighting in WWII, we do not have Generals in their 40’s these days. 2nd, they only get 75% if they have served at least 30 years which goes hand in hand since you arent going to find Generals or Admirals that have less service time at retirement.
As far as perks and pay go, I assume you believe that the fair comparison is a general to a Fire Chief. At least in California, there is no comparison. Chiefs make well over $200,000 in pay and retire with over 90% of that in their early 50’s. They get to drive vehicles on the house, ride in the helicopter if needed and yes, they even get a health plan that would make the average guy blush.
COSTA MESA The city could be spending more than a quarter of its budget on pensions within five years, according to projections unveiled at a City Council study session.
Costa Mesa is on the hook for $130.8 million in unfunded pensions – $20 million more than previously thought, Budget and Research Officer Bobby Young told the council at the Tuesday-night session.
In five years, the city is projected to spend more than $25 million annually in funding the pensions of city employees. At the same time, the city’s cash picture is deteriorating.
The city’s uncertain financial outlook has the new City Council looking for areas to cut. Apparently first on the chopping block is the police helicopter program.
Out of curiousity.
How many of you losers stayed to listen to this broken record drone on about public servants?
Let’s see a show hands.
I always wanted to know what a group of idiots look like.
Losers, idiots, morons? Jesus you have a tiny vocabulary.
And for the record I don’t believe you are a government worker. For that you generally have to have a high school diploma or a GED.
I believe it necessary to keep things at the level with the group I’m engaging.
Believe what you want about me. I’m the one who goes weeks and months between engaging on this board.
BTW, did you stay up to listen to Greenhut’s blabbering?
You obviously don’t have a girlfriend or wife.
Do you have a girlfriend or a wife?
Here’s a hint. I wasn’t listening to Greenhut the prostitute.
A comment on one of his stories said it best:
Mr. Greenhut is a prostitute who will do anything to sell a newspaper. He demonizes the people who deliver your mail, maintain your streets, educate your children and defend your nation.
No surprise here. He is a shill who will do anything to make money.
All the world’s problems are solved in one little phrase. Yet he lacks the conviction to put his name on a ballot and put his ideas to the test in the court of public opinion.
Odd. I asked about a girlfriend and you start talking about prostitutes. Freudian slip? But hey you could have been cruising Beach Blvd. last night and still had the radio. Instead you choose to remain uniformed.
You really are brainwashed.
Sorry Fred. Despite your loser attempts at deflection, this isn’t about me.
It’s about losers such as yourself who stay up to listen to Greenhut.
4SD is an arrogant bastard – he has the “I’ve got mine so fuck you all” attitude.
Thr real prostitutes are the complicit politicians and union thugs.
Ya. And that attitude is non-existent in the private sector.
Add another loser to the list.
4SD,
The difference is that in the private sector the taxpayer does not bear the burden of arrogant bastards such as yourself.
Arrogant Bastard – a good beer, but a very bad personal trait. http://www.arrogantbastard.com/
Really? You must have missed the bank bailouts. Some of those managers received tax payer bailout that are more than any firefighter or police officer will make in a lifetime.
Gawd, the loser comments just keep coming.
The bank bailouts were criminal alright. And supported entirely by liberals of both parties. Jesus Christ I’ve been dead 15 years and even I know that.
But how do the two equate? I have to accept the Great Non-Firefighter Union Ripoff because Bush and Obama shoved TARP down my throat?
4SD stop trying to act like me. You’re starting to embarrass me.
No surprise here. The FF union is by far the most successful union in the history of the country and perhaps the world. They put Goebbels to shame with their propaganda. Somehow I missed the pictures of the barbecues at the firehouse, sleeping, or watching TV. I guess they really do fight fires 100% of the time at work, but I seemed to have not seen a fire in a while.
Ollie finally resorts to Godwin’s Law.
Had to happen eventually.
It’s a usual loser tactic.
I got a 13% increase in retirement due to SB400. Greenhut says it was a 462% increase. New math, or lies to sell newspapers? You decide.
I’m going with Greenhut lies for a $1,000 Alex.
At least Greenhut has a job. What do you have?
Volunteer “collaborator” doesn’t count.
Really? You call that a job?
Other than writing propaganda, what useful purpose does it serve other than confirming the rantings of fellow losers?
Greenhut makes a lot of money as an editor and writer. What do you do except sponge off the taxpayer?
Loser.
Hmm, noted author and pension expert Steven Greenhut vs. some random public employee on the Internet named “Charles.”
I know where I’d put my money.
Do yourself a favor. Put your money on Charles.
Please don’t tell us you believe Greenhut to be an intellectual.
Greenhut has been an editor for a large newspaper. That makes him a hell of a lot more of an intellectual than you and your collaborating loser boohoo pals!
I’m hoping your day job isn’t being a P.I. You’re going to starve.
“…a rather low-intelligent Civil Servant…”
Now that’s rather funny.
4SD said: “You must have missed the bank bailouts. Some of those managers received tax payer bailout that are more than any firefighter or police officer will make in a lifetime.”
While excessive corporate CEO pay naturally galls the envious, it is a trivial issue in the cost to taxpayers and consumers. Go to where the money (and savings are) – government employee excessive compensation – and the huge pass-though cost of these abuses to all Americans:
http://www.open.salon.com/blog/richard_rider/2011/02/07/excess_ceo_pay_vs_overcompensated_public_employees
You’re quoting Dick Rider?
Another loser laugh.
The $8T dollar hole blown in the economy was filled by taxpayers.
His rationalization is pretty much BS.
As authorized by big government advocates in both parties. Just the type you adore.
The “8T hole” will be filled by your descendants if you have produced any.
We didn’t support the bailout and we don’t support being extorted by “public safety” unions. The unfunded pension liability is another debt big government lovers like you have passed on to their kids.
4SD Observer – “For Sheriff’s Dept. Observer”
They are watching, observing, monitoring and keeping a record.
“Paranoia strikes deep….into your heart it will creep…it starts when your always afraid”
Break out your tin foil accessories.
Yep. When they’ve got their asses kicked they always resort to calling you paranoid.
If 4SDO is the best “they” have then I believe the end is near for the party of ignorant pig fuckers.
I had no idea you were into bestiality.
It explains a lot.
4SDO, you are one big pathetic fool, and a stupid one at that. Curious called you an ignorant pig fu*ker and you tried turning it around but it didn’t work, your ship has sank to the bottom of your bathtub, too late to bail.
Why should he put his name on a ballot? FYI he champions causes publicly that are tested in the court of public opinion all the time. Unlike you. You can’t even defend you friends using a real name. PATHETIC.
Yes you are indeed a sad, anonymous loser.
The thing that I find interesting is that 4SDO would not be on this blog defending the bloated and ill-gotten benefits if he/she was not very concerned regarding the future of said booty.
No 4SD is our own home-grown carbuncle.
keepdapeace / 4SD O,
“You must be the same person (a-hole) as 4SD Observer over on the FFFF blog.”
