Green Party to Hold State Convention in Fullerton

The Green Party, which declares independence from influence of special interest money, will unveil a slate of candidates at State Convention in Fullerton this weekend.

FULLERTON – Billing itself as the most “independent” political party in the state – in stark contrast to Democrats and Republicans, who voters are increasingly shunning – the Green Party of California will hold a pre-election state convention here Saturday and Sunday.

A PRESS CONFERENCE featuring many of the party’s state and congressional candidates will be held at 12:30 p.m. SATURDAY at the Fullerton Dancesport Center/Imperial Ballroom (114 E. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton).

Thirty-four Greens are on the ballot throughout California Nov. 2, including seven up for state offices from the Governor to State Treasurer. One Green is running for U.S. Senator, five for the House of Representatives, five for State Assembly (all in Southern California) and the remainder for school boards, rent boards and other local offices.

About 40 Greens hold elected office in the state, including five mayors (Gayle McLaughlin is running for re-election in Richmond, a city of more than 100,000), and Greens dominate several city councils in the northern part of the state, including Fairfax and Sonoma.

“The Green Party is truly different. It’s independent of special interests. The two ‘Titanic’ parties are mired in big money influence, and govern according to those special interests, and not in the best interests of the people,” said Laura Wells, the Green candidate for Governor.

“Real issues like healthcare, campaign finance reform, renewable energy and our failing economy need to be solved without the corrupting influence of corporate and big union money,” said Jane Rands, Green Party candidate for the 72nd Assembly District, which includes Fullerton.

The Green Party of California General Assembly will address proposed platform revisions, announce positions on state ballot initiatives, and hold a strategy session entitled “2011 & Beyond”.  The meeting is being hosted by the Green Party of Orange County.

The Green Party’s platform is guided by the principals of Grassroots Democracy, Environmental Wisdom, Social Justice, and Nonviolence.  For more information visit www.cagreens.org.

It Isn’t Easy Being Green

POST UPDATE

Because the entrenched duopoly of power has very little interest in anything other than their own interests they are not inclined to stray off their respective reservations. No matter how much they bash each other the worst thing would be to let anybody else through the clubhouse door. So the political dialectic gets a little, um, stale. And by stale we mean brain dead asshat mindless.

A couple of weeks ago we ran a post on the immeasurably clownish ballot statements of the Republican and Democrat in the 72nd Special election. Since the Green Party candidate, Jane Rands,  did not have a statement on the ballot, we though we would oblige by sharing one with the Friends. So we asked Jane to send a statement along. And here it is:

Name:  Jane Rands

Occupation:  Systems Engineer

Age:  43

I do not accept lobbyist money because I am running to represent you and not the special interests.  While career politicians pander for dollars, I speak honestly about solutions for a sustainable future.

California needs a new energy plan based on clean, renewable power.  I support decentralized rooftop solar power to achieve energy independence and a cleaner environment.

We need health care without insurance company profits getting in the way of providing coverage for every Californian.  I support Single Payer health care.

We need a long term solution to bring water to our cities without harming our natural environment.  I oppose billions of tax payer dollars being used to pay back bonds for a peripheral canal intended to benefit agribusiness.  Local water use policies and conservation should be the centerpiece of any state water plan.

Last year Prop. 8 took away constitutionally guaranteed rights for the first time in our state’s history.  If the state is going to be in the business of sanctioning one’s chosen life partner the state should be fair and equitable.

Public transportation is cut while disproportional amounts of transportation funds go to widen streets and freeways that are soon again jammed with cars.  Elect me for long term transportation solutions.

I am a lifelong Californian with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Cal Poly Pomona.

Find out more about my campaign at www.janerandsforassembly.com or email jane@janerandsforassembly.com or call (714) 325-5223.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Please join me in campaigning for the California we all know we can have if we work together, not twenty years in the future, but now!

Okay, This Is Starting To Get A Little Embarrassing

What's next? "Former Hippies For Ackerman?"
What's next? "Former Hippies For Ackerman?"

The other day one of our Friends, an entrenched member of the Green Party, got a spam e-mail at his GP address from: drum roll…..Linda Ackerman.

Now there isn’t a chance in hell that this guy or any of his kindred spirits are going to vote for a Republican, let alone one that lives in Irvine; especially when they have a perfectly fine Greenie in Jane Rands.

We have already related how Mrs. Ackerman has tried to court non-Reeps by slithering out from under her own Repuglican rock; only to alienate local Republican stalwarts. She’s still trying to scrape the elephant dung off her shoes after that misstep.

We have also been told that Ackerwoman is advertising on cable TV during the day. Well there’s a no-brainer. And we mean that literally.

I gave Probolsky fifteen grand so I guess I'll buy another vowel

Candidate Jane Rands Brings Green Solutions to 72nd District State Assembly Campaign

Jane Rands Newspic 3

Dear Friends, we have received the following press release today from  Jane Rands’ 72nd Assembly District Special Election campaign. Enjoy!

www.janerandsforassembly.com, jane@janerandsforassembly.com, (714) 325-5223

Fullerton, CA – Jane Rands, Green Party candidate for the 72nd District Assembly, supports a single payer healthcare system, marriage equality, decentralized rooftop solar energy production, restoration of critical education funding, conservation of our water resources, and legislation to strengthen the California Environmental Quality Act. “California’s budget shortfalls can be partially resolved by implementing long overdue oil extraction fees and restructuring Proposition 13 to only apply to family homes,” said Rands.

The Green Party has had ballot status in California since 1992. The Party’s platform calls for ranked ballot voting, universal healthcare, equal rights for LGBT people, equal pay for women in the workplace, limitations on harmful atmospheric pollutants, the preservation and restoration of California’s natural waterways and wetlands, and other policies to develop an environmentally sustainable economy in the state. Visit www.cagreens.org for more information.

Jane Rands is a Systems Engineer who resides in Fullerton, where she is an appointed member of the city’s Bicycle Users Subcommittee. She holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She currently serves as Liaison to the Secretary of State for the Green Party of California and Treasurer for the Green Party of Orange County.

The 72nd Assembly District includes the cities of Brea, Fullerton, and parts of Placentia, Anaheim, La Habra, Orange and Yorba Linda. A November 17 primary is scheduled to be followed by an expected January 12 runoff election.

UPDATE: AS OF THE END OF BUSINESS ON 9/25 A FEW OTHER NAMES POPPED UP ON THE ROV SITE THEY ARE:

JAMES GERBUS (R)

JOHN MACMURRAY (D)

BRAIN LEE CROSS (L)

GRANT PETRUZELLI (R)

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF MACMURRAY WHO RAN AGAINS DUVALL LAST TIME WE HAVEN’T HEARD OF ANY OF THESE PEOPLE. AS OF 9/26/ LINDA ACKERMAN STILL LIVES IN IRVINE.

Dear Friends, if you visit this handy OC Registrar of Voters webpage you can follow the status of who’s doing what:

http://www.ocvote.com/election/72ndpri/lookup.asp

As you can see, at this point only three would-be candidates have picked up their nominating papers: Chris Norby, Sharon Quirk-Silva, and Jane Rands. They are registered Republican, Democrat, and Green, respectively.

So where’s the candidate we’ve been talking about lately, Irvine’s own Linda Ackerman? Well, according to the rules you can’t take out your papers if you don’t live in the district. As stated on the ROV website:

Any candidate for Assembly must be a United States citizen and be a registered voter and otherwise qualified to vote for that office at the time nomination papers are issued to the person;

So we believe we can safely assume that Mrs. Ackerman has yet to find a plausible fake residence in the 72nd district – of which her Irvine home in a secret, gated community is not a part.

Well you can't find a nice place in a dump like Fullerton overnight!
